THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Accountant will own the integrity of the company’s accounting records, financial close, management reporting, tax compliance and core finance controls. The role requires a practical accountant who can both deliver accurate day-to-day accounting and design systems that support a growing manufacturing business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the monthly and annual close and prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with IFRS and the Plan Comptable National Revise du Burundi (PCNR).
  • Maintain complete and reliable general ledger, receivables, payables, cash, bank, payroll, inventory and fixed asset records.
  • Prepare timely bank, supplier, customer, tax, payroll, inventory and control account reconciliations, with clear supporting schedules.
  • Produce monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow reports, variance analyses and decision-ready management commentary.
  • Strengthen manufacturing accounting, including raw materials, work in progress, finished goods, product costing, production variances, waste and stock counts.
  • Monitor working capital, collections, supplier payments and liquidity, and promptly escalate material financial
  • Coordinate statutory and external audits, prepare audit schedules and ensure all agreed audit actions are implemented on time.

SYSTEMS, TAX AND COMPLIANCE

  • Design, document and continuously improve the chart of accounts, finance procedures, approval workflows, reporting packs and month-end controls.
  • Support the selection, implementation and effective use of ERP, accounting and inventory systems, including automation and dependable data flows.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, appropriate segregation of duties, complete documentation and a clear audit trail for all transactions.
  • Prepare and review all applicable OBR filings and payments, including corporate income tax, VAT, employment taxes, withholding taxes and other statutory obligations.
  • Maintain effective use and reconciliation of OBR electronic platforms, including EBMS, and support customs, excise and import compliance where applicable.
  • Manage tax reviews, audits and correspondence with the Office Burundais des Recettes, external auditors, banks and other relevant authorities.
  • Supervise and develop the accounts team and work closely with production, procurement, sales and management to improve financial discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or a closely related
  • CPA, ACCA, CA, CIMA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification, completed or at an advanced
  • At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including senior or supervisory
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS/IAS and the Plan Comptable National Revise du Burundi (PCNR).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Burundi tax law, OBR filing and payment processes, EBMS, tax audits and regulatory
  • Demonstrated ability to build or improve accounting systems, internal controls, procedures and management
  • Manufacturing accounting, inventory, product costing and ERP experience are strongly
